Amazing Illustrations.

Several artworks and illustrations by Cristian Grossi, an Italian graphic designer, illustrator, and co-founder of studio KreativeHouse.

“Cristian Grossi, 33 years old, was born and raised in Emilia. Designer and illustrator, he is also involved in advertising, fashion and communication. Versatile, he switches from one style to another with ease, combining traditional technique in his images and computer graphics: he starts with hand drawing, ink on paper, and processes it to get pure digital lines. He loves logical paradoxes and changing his point of view.

His images are inspired by the graphic works of Beardsley and Erté, liberty frescoes of Galileo Chini, minimalism and modernism, Bruno Munari and all those contemporary artists who apply to image the idea of icon, intuition: from figurative to the performance; to these artistic suggestions he combines memories and creative aspects from his childhood years. The result is an essential and uncertain trait, always in balance between kitsch and formal elegance.

In his spare time he makes handmade notebooks using all types of paper that he finds, or often sleeps, in-activity which gives good results: “just when I wake up, in a state of semi-unconsciousness, I usually have great ideas”. He stumbled upon this type of creative occupation by chance, despite describing himself as a rational person, even stiff at times. He studied a whole different subject. He knows little of fashion (all you need to do is see how he dresses, he says) but draws a lot and tries to figure out retrospectively how to apply his works to clothing and accessories. Rather than be guided or be inspired by something he tries not to think, and to tap into inner resources and his idea of “musical nature”. The important thing is that the design is spontaneous, clean and free from too much reflection.

Children’s drawings, ink illustrations of lace or embroidery, or lysergic colours… better let the images speak for themselves. Or going to London, the Fashion Space Gallery is open until July 14th (see here) and has an exhibition dedicated to new fashion talents and some of his multimedia works – from the Insekta tables with beautiful and disturbing insect women, to illustrated animations inspired by the video artist, Bill Viola – and the gorgeous scarves made for PINKO, displayed as true works of art.”
